In response to the Texas abortion ban that went into effect September 1 and the Supreme Court’s decision to hear a direct challenge to Roe v. Wade later this year, reproductive health, rights and justice groups are mobilizing to demonstrate clearly and unequivocally that we will not allow for abortion to be outlawed in this country and we will fight to protect, defend, and expand access to abortion for everyone, no matter what.

DC Statehood is critical to protect the reproductive health, rights, and justice for the people of DC. Without self-determination, without true self-government, our freedom is under constant threat. For years, Congress has overridden and blocked initiatives that would improve the health and well-being of Washingtonians. In particular, Congress restricts DC from covering abortion care in its Medicaid program, a major barrier to abortion access. 

Please join the local DC Planned Parenthood and DC Vote at 11:30am on the steps of the Wilson Building. We will stand on those steps with giant letters spelling out: “DC Statehood = DC Abortion Justice” and hold them high throughout the rally at Freedom Plaza.
